**Ius ad Bellum, Ius in Bello**  
_Full_: Cum iustum et iniustum quoad susceptionem belli existant, nullum tamen iustum aut iniustum quoad gestionem eius exstat.

- _English_: Whereas the just and the unjust in terms of entering upon war exist, there is no such thing as the just or the unjust in terms of conducting it.

- _German_: Während das Gerechte und das Ungerechte hinsichtlich der Aufnahme eines Krieges existieren, gibt es hinsichtlich seiner Führung kein Gerechtes oder Ungerechtes.

_Aphorism_: Iustum et iniustum in suscipiendo bello reperiuntur; in gerendo autem neutrum exstat.

- _English_: The just and the unjust exist in undertaking war, but in waging it, neither.
