Christian Nationalism Is Submission to God

Hosts

You may have heard of the ‘two kingdoms’ doctrine and have certainly heard of the ‘separation of Church and State’, but is either of these a truly Christian position? Is God Lord only of His Church or does He also rule the kingdoms of this world? As Christians, what are our duties in the context of the State?

The Media, and many others, have spent years, now, shouting about “Christian Nationalism”, but few could even define either term. This episode is both a primer on Christian Nationalism from a Christian perspective and the definitive statement of its core nature. Christian Nationalism is simply Christianity lived out in the left-hand kingdom, for both kingdoms belong to Christ.

00:00:37.479 → 00:00:39.459
Welcome to the Stone Choir Podcast.

00:00:39.639 → 00:00:40.559
I am Corey J.

00:00:40.579 → 00:00:40.939
Mahler.

00:00:41.519 → 00:00:42.259
And I’m Woe.

00:00:44.679 → 00:00:47.519
So today we’re going to be talking about Christian nationalism.

00:00:48.019 → 00:00:51.499
This is a subject that has been hot and heavy in the news very recently.

00:00:52.319 → 00:00:55.099
It has been, a number of books have been published.

00:00:55.119 → 00:00:57.699
There’s a lot of chatter online about it.

00:00:58.839 → 00:01:02.459
It’s a subject that you and I, Corey, have been talking about for a number of years.

00:01:02.479 → 00:01:06.379
It’s something we’ve both written about, to some extent, in the past.

00:01:06.399 → 00:01:11.399
And frankly, we know more about it than a lot of people, just because we’ve been thinking about it for a long time.

00:01:12.179 → 00:01:14.819
And so this is well-trodden ground for us.

00:01:14.839 → 00:01:15.499
We’re not going to…

00:01:15.939 → 00:01:24.739
This will be more of a conversational episode, hopefully, than the last couple, just because we can freewheel this and we’re going to do a good job because this is our home turf.

00:01:25.639 → 00:01:36.679
And the reason is because it is so vitally important to recognize that a Christian nation is what God desires.

00:01:37.179 → 00:01:41.219
Christian nationalism is what God expects from us.

00:01:42.199 → 00:02:07.519
And we’re going to talk at some length initially about the definitions of both nation, as in nationalism, and then Christian, because those are the reflections of what’s commonly called the two kingdoms in theology, the kingdom of the left hand of God and the kingdom of the right hand of God, with the left hand being political and the right hand being spiritual or soteriological, basically church and state, or state and church.

00:02:09.219 → 00:02:25.139
The reason that this is something that, there are a number of historical reasons why people sort of go off the rails when they tackle these things, but first we’re going to talk about why the words themselves, particularly the word nation and nationalist have been so profoundly subverted.

00:02:26.999 → 00:02:34.739
As we go on in the series, listeners will recognize that we are frequently spending a lot of time defining terms.

00:02:35.239 → 00:02:37.999
And I hope that that never comes across as gimmicky.

00:02:38.219 → 00:02:45.799
It’s not something that we’re just doing to be spurgy or to kind of wheedle and make bizarre points.

00:02:46.739 → 00:02:59.699
The reason for discussing the etymology and the origins of words is specifically because so many words have been intentionally subverted by those who seek the destruction of godly things.

00:03:00.239 → 00:03:18.619
This was one of the premises of 1984, was that when the language itself is captured, it’s possible to render certain thoughts literally unthinkable, as in the human mind can no longer process a thought contrary to the desired dogma.

00:03:19.019 → 00:03:25.159
And they do that by redefining words until there’s no word for the thing that you’re trying to say anymore.

00:03:25.439 → 00:03:30.259
Because if you don’t have a word for it and you can’t say it, you can’t think it.

00:03:31.119 → 00:03:32.479
And it’s a weapon.

00:03:32.839 → 00:03:38.379
It’s something that’s weaponized, and it’s being done deliberately in certain words and language.

00:03:38.479 → 00:03:41.899
And nation and nationalism are a prime example.

00:03:42.599 → 00:04:06.379
So I would, for anyone listening to episode three, this episode, I would first recommend that you go back to episode two and spend about the first 15 minutes or so listening to Cory’s monologue talking about genealogy in scripture and how God uses genealogy of man begetting man throughout time in particular places to God’s ends.

00:04:07.759 → 00:04:15.459
It’s worth noting that when Adam emerged from the garden, he was a father, or he was a husband.

00:04:15.539 → 00:04:16.779
He soon became a father.

00:04:17.179 → 00:04:18.299
He was also king.

00:04:18.539 → 00:04:26.159
He was the king of the world, despite having been demoted from his perfection through his sin.

00:04:26.639 → 00:04:27.739
He remained king.

00:04:28.019 → 00:04:29.819
And when he had children, he was their father.

00:04:29.839 → 00:04:30.919
He was also their king.

00:04:31.199 → 00:04:32.639
He was also their priest.

00:04:33.519 → 00:04:36.619
And he was a religious leader as he was of Eve.

00:04:36.919 → 00:04:47.239
The reason that God repudiated his actions in the garden was that he listened to his wife instead of controlling her inclination to listen to the serpent.

00:04:47.799 → 00:04:59.259
If Adam had faithfully upheld his role as husband and as priest, that error would have been set right, and we don’t know how human history would have played out.

00:05:00.879 → 00:05:03.859
The same circumstances were repeated when Noah stepped off the ark.

00:05:04.659 → 00:05:08.359
He was father, he was husband, he was king, and he was priest.

00:05:08.959 → 00:05:19.859
And it is only as the expansion of those families occurred again that the role of priest and king became separated.

00:05:20.199 → 00:05:22.819
And we’re not suggesting that that’s a bad thing.

00:05:23.159 → 00:05:33.819
It is perfectly godly for the political to have its sphere, and the religious, the Christian, to have its sphere.

00:05:34.459 → 00:05:42.619
But to say that the Christian sphere is separate from the political sphere is to fundamentally misunderstand what it is to be Christian.

00:05:42.639 → 00:05:44.919
So that will be the second part of this podcast.

00:05:44.939 → 00:05:46.339
So we’re going to begin with nation.

00:05:47.379 → 00:05:52.639
Nation is a word that came into the English language around the 1300s from French.

00:05:53.239 → 00:05:55.679
The French word, I’m not going to pronounce because I’ll butcher it.

00:05:56.039 → 00:05:58.439
But the definition is the same as it is for us.

00:05:59.039 → 00:06:06.999
A race of people, a large group of people with common ancestry and language from the old French for birth, rank, descendants.

00:06:08.099 → 00:06:19.659
And if you trace that back even further, it goes through Old Latin, and it ends up in the Proto-Indo-European root, gene, which means give birth and beget.

00:06:19.839 → 00:06:22.259
I think it was in the first episode we talked about that as well.

00:06:22.699 → 00:06:25.479
That, or maybe the second is an episode.

00:06:25.499 → 00:06:28.479
We’re going to talk about this over and over again because it’s so fundamental.

00:06:29.159 → 00:06:38.099
The genes, the natal nature of begetting of people, it’s how God operates in creation.

00:06:38.559 → 00:06:44.679
It’s one of the things that separates mankind today from mankind in heaven.

00:06:45.119 → 00:06:49.159
In heaven, we will be like the angels and that there won’t be any more reproduction.

00:06:49.879 → 00:06:55.159
All of the names that are in the Book of Life will be born in a fallen world.

00:06:55.619 → 00:06:59.359
There won’t be any more people coming after Judgment Day.

00:06:59.879 → 00:07:06.319
The creating aspect of God’s history will come to an end with Judgment Day.

00:07:06.639 → 00:07:08.579
No more giving birth, no more begetting.

00:07:08.939 → 00:07:12.379
The genealogy, the lines, the beginning will all be locked in.

00:07:12.979 → 00:07:18.799
But for this time, for our lives, all that we know, we don’t know before the fall and we don’t know Judgment Day or after it.

00:07:19.039 → 00:07:21.719
We know that right now, this is how God operates.

00:07:22.719 → 00:07:30.979
So the reason I’m pointing first to the definition of nation is to make clear that it is explicitly racial.

00:07:32.059 → 00:07:37.639
And that’s a vital point because today, nation and country are used as synonyms.

00:07:38.259 → 00:07:43.739
To say that something is a country or it’s a nation, people virtually always mean the same thing.

00:07:44.479 → 00:07:46.939
You say the United States is a country, you say it’s a nation.

00:07:47.239 → 00:07:49.639
No one’s going to think you’re talking about two different things.

00:07:51.079 → 00:07:58.319
When the United States was founded, when the colonies were founded and then the United States was formed from that, it was a nation.

00:07:59.879 → 00:08:01.539
This was New England.

00:08:02.019 → 00:08:08.399
It was founded over 400 years ago by people coming from England to New England.

00:08:08.979 → 00:08:10.139
They were not immigrants.

00:08:10.239 → 00:08:14.339
They didn’t leave one place and go to another place that was different.

00:08:14.739 → 00:08:20.939
They went to a new place that was empty, and they recreated as best they could from whence they came.

00:08:21.479 → 00:08:23.099
They recreated England.

00:08:23.479 → 00:08:26.339
Now, not as a perfect copy because that wasn’t their desire.

00:08:26.359 → 00:08:34.939
Frankly, three quarters of my ancestors were here by about 1650 because they were so sick of what the English were doing nearly 400 years ago.

00:08:35.419 → 00:08:40.939
So while they brought the language and they brought the subset of some of the religion, they brought cultural mores.

00:08:41.719 → 00:08:45.679
They were also seeking to do their own thing, but it was not in rebellion.

00:08:46.639 → 00:08:54.039
It was simply let’s go live in peace among ourselves and continue to be English in a manner that doesn’t violate our consciences.

00:08:55.079 → 00:08:59.639
And of course, that was the case for all of the European people groups who came over here.

00:08:59.659 → 00:09:06.679
You had the Spanish who set up colonies and attempted to remain Spanish to a different degree from the English perhaps.

00:09:07.179 → 00:09:11.119
And then you had, of course, the original name of New York to Amsterdam.

00:09:12.179 → 00:09:14.899
They were setting up extensions of their nation.

00:09:14.919 → 00:09:22.799
They were not creating some new experiment to mix everyone together and create a new nation or realistically a new Babel.

00:09:23.559 → 00:09:24.039
Exactly.

00:09:24.419 → 00:09:26.019
And it was the case in Canada.

00:09:26.039 → 00:09:26.939
It was mostly French.

00:09:27.399 → 00:09:29.479
Louisiana and North was mostly French.

00:09:30.099 → 00:09:32.959
And some of those marks even exist to this day.

00:09:33.739 → 00:09:43.059
And when people come to a new place, there will naturally be some degree of intermixing, particularly when you have so much in common.

00:09:43.839 → 00:09:52.959
20 years ago, if an American went to most Western European countries, apart from the language difference, most of it would feel very similar.

00:09:53.999 → 00:09:58.219
The customs vary, but they’re not completely alien customs.

00:09:58.239 → 00:10:08.839
They’re just variations on themes that are familiar to us because we have that shared culture, which is a part of our shared ancestry.

00:10:08.859 → 00:10:09.779
They’re inextricable.

00:10:13.439 → 00:10:18.239
And as we look at what nation means, you had mentioned the intermingling.

00:10:18.599 → 00:10:35.379
When we skip forward 150 years from the founding of the colonies to when the United States rebelled against England and became its own political entity, I want to point to the preamble to the Constitution, which used to be memorized in school.

00:10:35.399 → 00:10:57.479
It probably isn’t anymore, but it reads, We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution of the United States of America.

00:10:58.759 → 00:11:03.119
Now, the word that I want to highlight there is ourselves and our posterity.

00:11:04.379 → 00:11:07.019
When they said that, they meant it.

00:11:07.439 → 00:11:09.499
When we hear it, we don’t hear anything.

00:11:09.519 → 00:11:12.619
Posterity is really kind of an archaic term that’s not used anymore.

00:11:13.279 → 00:11:18.199
So I want to take a look at where that word came from, what it meant when they wrote it.

00:11:19.959 → 00:11:27.099
For the discussions I’m using, and we’ll put the link in the show notes, there are two websites that I recommend everyone look at.

00:11:27.119 → 00:11:34.319
Whenever you want to have any conversation about what a word means, go to two places, go to edamonline.com.

00:11:34.339 → 00:11:37.559
That’s E-T-Y-M, as in etymology.

00:11:38.179 → 00:11:46.919
It will give details going back to where the word first entered English and then its origins in previous predecessor languages.

00:11:46.939 → 00:11:54.079
The other website that is invaluable for any of these discussions is Webster’s Dictionary, 1828.com.

00:11:55.139 → 00:12:00.119
It’s a full copy of the original Webster’s Dictionary, as it was published nearly 200 years ago.

00:12:00.919 → 00:12:12.419
The reason this is important is that, as I said, these words are under attack by those who are trying to change the very fabric of existence for us.

00:12:12.719 → 00:12:21.299
And they do that by making us unable to discuss certain things, by removing the words or redefining the words that we would use for those discussions.

00:12:22.419 → 00:12:32.019
So when you look at what those words meant 200 years ago, it gives an indication, you know, when we’re talking about the original American context, what did those guys mean?

00:12:32.319 → 00:12:42.599
But it’s also valuable just because it well predates almost all the subversion that has occurred in language, especially in, I mean, dictionaries are changing every year at this point.

00:12:42.619 → 00:12:46.419
You can go back five years and you’ll find a dictionary that doesn’t say what it does today.

00:12:46.819 → 00:12:51.659
And it’s contrary to what it says today because they’re being so aggressive about destroying these terms.

00:12:52.279 → 00:13:02.399
Now, 1828 was still under the thrall of the Enlightenment, but beyond the Enlightenment, there was not a lot of subversion present in it.

00:13:03.359 → 00:13:07.499
So we’re going to look at the definition for posterity from the preamble.

00:13:08.719 → 00:13:17.219
Comes from Latin, it means descendants, children, children’s children, et cetera, and definitely the race that proceeds from a progenitor.

00:13:17.619 → 00:13:20.399
The whole human race are the posterity of Adam.

00:13:21.179 → 00:13:24.959
Now, that’s in the Constitution, that it’s racial.

00:13:25.519 → 00:13:30.899
That’s not you and I being racist saying we hate people and we want to exclude them.

00:13:31.419 → 00:13:39.899
We’re simply saying when the people who founded this country did so, they understood that it was explicitly racial.

00:13:40.519 → 00:13:47.799
I just want to read briefly the race, part of the definition for race, also from the 1628 or 1828 Webster.

00:13:48.439 → 00:13:56.899
The lineage of a family or continued series of descendants from a parent who is called the stock, a race is a series of descendants indefinitely.

00:13:57.519 → 00:13:58.199
They’re synonyms.

00:13:58.479 → 00:14:00.079
They mean exactly the same thing.

00:14:00.099 → 00:14:04.939
Posterity and race are interchangeable, unlike country and nation.

00:14:05.579 → 00:14:18.519
So the reason for pointing to this first is that when we look at the United States in 1791, it was both a country, a new formed country, and it was a nation.

00:14:18.719 → 00:14:26.399
It was a preexisting nation because those roots were genetic roots from their fathers going back six generations.

00:14:28.299 → 00:14:35.779
This is an important point because by calling it racial, it is implicitly excluding some groups.

00:14:36.239 → 00:14:43.879
It’s excluding Indians who had lived here beforehand and were by and large pushed aside or God killed them with plague.

00:14:44.679 → 00:15:05.919
There’s also the Africans who were enslaved by other Africans, sold to Jewish slave traders, put on Jewish owned slave ships, brought primarily to southern colonies where they were sold almost exclusively to Jewish plantation owners where they were kept as slaves and used as labor, sometimes under brutal conditions.

00:15:08.999 → 00:15:29.619
When those men were emancipated from their slavery in 1865, they did not automatically become citizens of the United States because it was still understood that although they were now legally emancipated, they were not posterity, they were not the American posterity.

00:15:29.979 → 00:15:36.619
They were unjustly brought here from Africa, and equally importantly, they were still African.

00:15:36.899 → 00:15:40.939
Regardless of what language they spoke, they were Africans in America.

00:15:41.579 → 00:15:48.299
And when you and I discuss these subjects, I never want anyone to hear that and think that we’re being insulting or derogatory.

00:15:48.979 → 00:15:52.199
To say that someone is African, I don’t think that’s an insult.

00:15:52.679 → 00:15:57.159
I think that if you’re African, you should be proud of your African heritage, whatever it is.

00:15:57.659 → 00:16:01.179
Find the best parts of whatever you came from and be proud of that.

00:16:01.519 → 00:16:01.999
You know what?

00:16:02.399 → 00:16:04.299
That’s obedience to the Fourth Commandment.

00:16:04.599 → 00:16:08.959
To honor your father and mother is not limited with your immediate parents.

00:16:08.979 → 00:16:10.339
It goes back in time.

00:16:10.959 → 00:16:14.039
And where your ancestors are, do better.

00:16:14.559 → 00:16:16.979
Where they were wrong, be right.

00:16:17.479 → 00:16:19.159
But be proud of whatever good they did.

00:16:19.459 → 00:16:23.459
So when I say you’re not American, you’re African, it’s not hateful.

00:16:24.099 → 00:16:25.459
It’s simply precise.

00:16:25.879 → 00:16:32.499
And it’s precise in a way that has been destroyed by taking the word nation and turning it into a synonym for country.

00:16:33.359 → 00:16:37.739
And there are a lot of people listening right now that probably hate hearing that.

00:16:37.759 → 00:16:39.579
They probably think that’s nonsense.

00:16:39.819 → 00:16:40.979
That’s completely false.

00:16:41.399 → 00:16:43.819
I will prove to you right now that you actually believe this.

00:16:44.219 → 00:16:45.199
And it’s in the Bible.

00:16:46.319 → 00:17:00.979
When the Hebrews moved into Egypt and over the period of 400 years became slaves to the Egyptians and grew to the point that there were more Hebrews than there were Egyptians or they were overwhelming them, they never stopped being Hebrew.

00:17:01.619 → 00:17:02.859
They didn’t become Egyptian.

00:17:02.919 → 00:17:07.579
Even after 400 years in that country, they still had their own language.

00:17:07.919 → 00:17:09.219
They still had their own race.

00:17:09.239 → 00:17:11.459
They weren’t intermixing with the Egyptians by and large.

00:17:11.919 → 00:17:13.699
They still had their own culture.

00:17:14.539 → 00:17:17.159
They saw their own norms and mores.

00:17:17.679 → 00:17:19.219
They were still Hebrew.

00:17:19.419 → 00:17:20.979
It didn’t matter where they live.

00:17:21.519 → 00:17:22.859
And that wasn’t…

00:17:23.279 → 00:17:30.319
Yes, it was the case that God was preserving them as a vessel for the promise of the Messiah.

00:17:31.739 → 00:17:36.339
But that would have been the case even if God didn’t care about the Hebrews for that purpose.

00:17:36.699 → 00:17:46.959
Even if they had not been shuttled about and bobbed around in the ocean of history as part of God’s plan, they would still have been Hebrew.

00:17:47.499 → 00:17:49.779
Just going somewhere else doesn’t change your nature.

00:17:50.819 → 00:17:56.199
If there’s a tiger in a zoo in Des Moines, it’s not an Iowa tiger, it’s a Bengal tiger.

00:17:56.979 → 00:17:59.119
It’s a tiger on the wrong continent.

00:17:59.879 → 00:18:03.439
Now, someone will say, well, you’re a white guy, you don’t belong here either.

00:18:03.459 → 00:18:05.699
I will tell you this.

00:18:06.159 → 00:18:08.099
My ancestors have been here 400 years.

00:18:09.719 → 00:18:15.779
The only ancestors of mine who came through immigration came from Germany in 1870.

00:18:16.219 → 00:18:18.079
All the rest were here before it was a country.

00:18:18.659 → 00:18:26.739
Now, yes, they came from England to New England, not as immigrants, but as people who built this country from nothing.

00:18:28.159 → 00:18:39.139
There’s another illustration that I use often to demonstrate that the idea that someone moving to another place doesn’t mean that they are never native.

00:18:40.159 → 00:18:41.039
Look at New Zealand.

00:18:41.479 → 00:18:50.199
New Zealand today has the descendants of the English conquerors, and you have the Maori, who were called the natives of New Zealand.

00:18:51.559 → 00:19:00.719
When the English showed up in the 1600s, the Maori lived there, and so we say, well, automatically, those are the natives.

00:19:01.339 → 00:19:08.999
The Maori got there between about 1300 and 1350, so they had only been there about 300 years when the English showed up.

00:19:09.339 → 00:19:19.939
They all came from somewhere else, and they moved to a place that they took over, they made it theirs, and then someone else showed up, moved in, took it over, made it theirs.

00:19:20.599 → 00:19:22.779
Are the Maori native to New Zealand?

00:19:22.839 → 00:19:23.179
Sure.

00:19:23.679 → 00:19:27.859
Are the European settlers who have lived there 400 years native to New Zealand?

00:19:28.199 → 00:19:28.539
Yes.

00:19:29.359 → 00:19:39.779
I am a native of North America, and if you say that I’m not after 400 years, you must necessarily say that the Maori are not natives of New Zealand.

00:19:40.159 → 00:19:51.519
Now, the difference between me and my ancestors moving to North America and the Hebrews living in Egypt is that that was never their country.

00:19:52.379 → 00:19:53.819
God didn’t give it into their hands.

00:19:54.439 → 00:19:59.279
God gave this country into my ancestors’ hands and probably into many of your ancestors’ hands.

00:19:59.879 → 00:20:04.339
When the white man showed up, almost all the natives were killed by disease.

00:20:04.839 → 00:20:12.059
And today, because we have germ theory, we’re like, oh, well, that was just totally random, and maybe even in some cases, the Europeans tried to kill them with germs.

00:20:12.399 → 00:20:13.179
They had no idea.

00:20:13.199 → 00:20:13.779
They didn’t know.

00:20:14.179 → 00:20:15.079
That was a plague.

00:20:15.699 → 00:20:19.459
Plagues come from God.

00:20:20.079 → 00:20:28.079
That was God’s will that those European settlers not have to deal with millions and millions of Indians who were trying to kill them.

00:20:28.499 → 00:20:39.619
I have numerous ancestors who fought and in some cases were killed by Indians in the first half of the 17th century because they live next door.

00:20:40.419 → 00:20:43.539
And it wasn’t that they were in open combat.

00:20:43.559 → 00:20:46.419
It was just that the Indians wanted them gone and fine.

00:20:46.779 → 00:20:47.679
That’s…

00:20:47.679 → 00:20:54.319
I don’t fault the Indians for trying to kill them, but my people won and we took this land.

00:20:54.599 → 00:20:59.059
And I’m not ashamed of that because it occurred by God’s grace.

00:20:59.419 → 00:21:08.599
And that is how the colonies became nations which formed the United States and over time, it became an empire.

00:21:08.839 → 00:21:23.259
It became the sort of multi-ethnic empire with different people coming from different places not losing their distinct properties because if it’s a racial distinction, you don’t lose it.

00:21:23.679 → 00:21:26.739
I don’t stop being European just because I live in the United States.

00:21:27.139 → 00:21:29.879
If I colonize Mars, I’m a European on Mars.

00:21:29.899 → 00:21:30.719
I’m not a Martian.

00:21:31.219 → 00:21:37.319
If my kids are born on Mars, they’re not Martians, they’re Europeans born on a Martian colony of Europe.

00:21:38.179 → 00:21:43.699
That’s simply how God propagates the genealogies of his people throughout time.

00:21:44.119 → 00:21:51.179
And it hasn’t changed in the last century just because we think we’re clever and we have new, more enlightened ways of talking about these things.

00:21:53.639 → 00:22:23.739
And when it comes to the idea of someone being, you know, X because he was born in X country, ultimately you can trace that back, and it’s clearly ridiculous, because if we’re all X because we are originally from or born in X, and it only belongs to the people who are natives, well, then we’re all natives of Ararat, and none of us own anything else, because, well, that’s ultimately the place we’re all originated from, because of course that is where the Ark landed.

00:22:25.179 → 00:22:43.579
And so the idea that the native population can’t change is a really mercenary idea, if you actually look at the Genesis of the idea, to go back to the idea that the source of things matters, because how is it actually employed?

00:22:44.419 → 00:22:53.439
It’s employed purely as an argument against colonization and modern conquering of heathen nations.

00:22:54.139 → 00:22:59.899
It’s never used historically to argue that historical conquest should not have happened.

00:22:59.919 → 00:23:01.259
It’s not used to restore.

00:23:01.279 → 00:23:14.619
There’s not an irredentist argument with regard to older areas that were conquered, but it’s just the European colonization, because what is the ultimate Genesis of that argument?

00:23:14.959 → 00:23:32.379
Well, it’s Satan, because Satan hated colonization, because colonization was European Christians taking Christianity to other parts of the world and deriving out Satan and the pagans, because that is how God works.

00:23:32.939 → 00:23:41.139
God drives out and destroys faithless nations, and he uses sometimes faithful nations to do it, sometimes faithless nations.

00:23:41.539 → 00:23:44.939
Sometimes God punishes one faithless nation with another.

00:23:45.879 → 00:23:49.059
That is how God wishes to work, and he can do that if he wants to do that.

00:23:50.379 → 00:23:57.139
But in the case of colonization, it was European Christians, faithful Christians, driving out evil.

00:23:59.479 → 00:24:04.059
And those European Christians became Christian in exactly the same way.

00:24:04.559 → 00:24:12.759
It was not that evangelists went to every single European individually and said, Hey, let me share the gospel with you, and let me baptize you.

00:24:14.619 → 00:24:19.719
It was the kings who ultimately converted, and when the king converted, his nation converted.

00:24:19.739 → 00:24:26.719
I’m actually descended from the woman who is directly responsible for all of us being Christian.

00:24:27.699 → 00:24:32.239
I was reading last night about Clotilda and her husband, Clovis.

00:24:32.259 → 00:24:33.479
And she was Christian.

00:24:36.419 → 00:24:43.719
She basically bullied her husband, King Clovis I or II, I, into becoming Christian.

00:24:45.159 → 00:24:51.219
And that was the genesis of what Wikipedia calls Nicene Christianity in Europe.

00:24:51.819 → 00:25:00.759
If you look at a map of quote-unquote Christianity in Europe prior to about 600 AD, the only actual Christians were in the East.

00:25:01.279 → 00:25:02.819
It was all Aryans in the West.

00:25:03.619 → 00:25:07.339
Now, Arianism is fundamentally not Christian.

00:25:07.699 → 00:25:10.259
It sounds mostly Christian, and they did speak…

00:25:11.619 → 00:25:22.559
The word of God was spoken among them, so surely some of them were Christian, but the Aryan confession itself is explicitly not Christian because it denies that Jesus is fully God.

00:25:23.999 → 00:25:50.159
So, Clotilde, her convincing Clovis to become Christian, and him building a cathedral in the center of his seat of power and his influence over the Franks to become Nicene Christians as opposed to Aryan not Christians, was the entire reason that Christianity proper spread in all of Europe.

00:25:50.359 → 00:25:52.039
It’s the reason that we’re Christian today.

00:25:52.299 → 00:25:57.919
We may well be Aryans and not be Christian at all, if not for that, if not for a king converting.

00:25:58.839 → 00:26:12.679
And if you look back in scripture, it’s completely normal for there not to be a separation between the religion of a nation, the king of a nation, and its people.

00:26:13.259 → 00:26:22.159
And this is even reflected in the fact that so many, especially ancient pagan nations, the king was treated as a god.

00:26:22.859 → 00:26:37.219
Now, while this was obviously was idolatry, but in a sense, it was actually an accurate reflection of the godly form, not that the king is god, but that the king is the representative of god in that place.

00:26:37.879 → 00:26:42.159
And the fact that the pagan nations said, you know what, there’s no god above our king.

00:26:42.179 → 00:26:44.419
Our king is the god of all of us.

00:26:45.279 → 00:26:59.119
That was your usurpation going up, but from the king on down, it wasn’t anything more than a misdirection because the king is the god’s representative over his people for their benefit.

00:26:59.399 → 00:27:00.879
And that is the left hand kingdom.

00:27:01.499 → 00:27:17.519
And so the notion that there would be a distinction between what the king believes and what the people believe doesn’t make any more sense than if it happens in a household with a father who’s faithful and a wife and mother and children who are unfaithful.

00:27:17.699 → 00:27:18.639
It should not happen.

00:27:20.499 → 00:27:23.019
And we have an example of that closer to our time.

00:27:23.039 → 00:27:41.119
We had the whole reason we’re called Protestants is because the emperor went back on the promise to allow individual princes to determine which version of Christianity would be practiced within their realms, whether they would be Lutheran or they would be Papist.

00:27:41.899 → 00:27:50.359
And of course the emperor went back on that because his advisors changed basically and the influences on him changed, but we protested that.

00:27:50.619 → 00:28:00.939
And that was natural because the prince, the head, the king within that region, determined what his subjects believed, because that is the natural course of things.

00:28:00.959 → 00:28:03.719
Because as you mentioned, the father is the head of the family.

00:28:04.319 → 00:28:05.699
The father makes the decisions.

00:28:05.999 → 00:28:10.419
Well, the king is the head of the nation, and so the king makes the decisions.

00:28:10.979 → 00:28:17.139
And so yes, most of Europe was converted because a few key people were converted.

00:28:17.539 → 00:28:27.779
Kings, advisors, whoever happened to be, they converted those who were in a position of headship, and that affected a conversion of the people as a whole.

00:28:29.379 → 00:28:32.499
And that is what it means for a nation to be Christian.

00:28:34.619 → 00:28:43.799
And right now, there are a lot of people in the audience probably howling at the premise, because there were so many abuses in history where this was done incorrectly, and that’s absolutely the case.

00:28:44.099 → 00:28:47.559
And that’s where the two kingdoms distinction is useful.

00:28:49.059 → 00:28:58.939
When Clovis became Christian, he built a cathedral, but it was a bishop who ran the cathedral, it was a bishop who taught the people.

00:28:59.499 → 00:29:07.439
Clovis said, I’m Christian, strongly suggested his people should be Christian, but he was not directly over the church.

00:29:08.119 → 00:29:21.439
What went wrong in Roman Catholicism is not that they spread Christianity, but that they became political, which is not what we’re advocating, and that is not what Christian nationalism is.

00:29:21.919 → 00:29:29.459
Christian nationalism is not the notion that the church becomes a political force unto itself.

00:29:30.559 → 00:29:44.719
The church is responsible for soteriology, it is responsible for the salvation of souls and for the preservation of doctrine and for the proper use of the word and sacrament among the people.

00:29:45.159 → 00:29:47.419
That’s not the realm of the government.

00:29:47.759 → 00:29:53.279
That should not happen, that the government is dictating which sacraments are practiced or how.

00:29:54.159 → 00:29:59.739
We don’t believe that, and it’s not necessarily a part of Christian nationalism to suggest that.

00:30:00.179 → 00:30:06.199
So when someone says, oh, well, you’re going to end up with Baptists running everything, I don’t care, because you know what?

00:30:06.199 → 00:30:08.479
Baptists don’t want babies to be murdered.

00:30:08.879 → 00:30:12.099
Baptists don’t want their children to have their genitals chopped off.

00:30:12.579 → 00:30:17.759
Baptists don’t want Muslims raping their daughters, just like I don’t.

00:30:18.559 → 00:30:21.099
Baptists are not going to be in charge of the sacraments.

00:30:21.119 → 00:30:26.499
If this were a Christian nation again, they can still be Baptist and we can still be Lutheran.

00:30:27.699 → 00:30:39.219
But what will stop is the evils that have befell all of us, by ceasing to be overtly Christian, which is fundamentally the purpose of Christian nationalism.

00:30:39.479 → 00:30:43.119
It’s not necessarily to say, well, okay, this is the correct denomination.

00:30:43.459 → 00:30:45.059
Everyone’s got to be this denomination.

00:30:46.439 → 00:31:06.859
For a Christian to be a participant in a nation politically is to bring how his conscience is informed by God through Scripture to his other duties, to his other vocations as a husband, as a father, as a neighbor, perhaps as a mayor or as a sheriff.

00:31:07.819 → 00:31:21.519
If he knows that God doesn’t want people to be murdered for things to be stolen, for people to be harmed, that’s going to inform his conduct in his role in preserving earthly order.

00:31:22.999 → 00:31:30.599
Of course, we should be careful to distinguish that when it comes to papus, they do exactly want to return to Roman hegemony.

00:31:31.599 → 00:31:41.419
So in the case of those who are Roman Catholic, Catholic in quotes, of course, they do want the conflation of the two kingdoms.

00:31:41.439 → 00:31:57.819
They don’t want any differentiation because they see the king as inferior to the pope, as opposed to being Christ’s left hand and the leader of the church being his right hand or the leadership, whatever it happens, to be the organization in the right hand kingdom.

00:31:58.579 → 00:32:09.899
Because that’s part of what we tend to drop when we’re speaking about these concepts these days, is we don’t say the left hand of Christ, which is what the left hand kingdom is.

00:32:10.279 → 00:32:16.039
We use that shorthand, but we’re assuming that people understand something that people no longer understand.

00:32:16.659 → 00:32:20.439
It is the left hand of Christ and the right hand of Christ.

00:32:20.899 → 00:32:22.519
These both belong to God.

00:32:23.099 → 00:32:27.579
We’re not talking about two separate, entirely distinct things.

00:32:27.979 → 00:32:32.639
We are talking about how God interacts with the world in two distinct ways.

00:32:33.619 → 00:32:43.139
And when we advocate Christian nationalism, we are saying that the state should uphold Christian values.

00:32:43.419 → 00:32:48.339
Now, that’s distinct from Christian doctrine, and this shouldn’t be complicated for people, but somehow it is.

00:32:48.819 → 00:32:50.419
Yes, there are historical abuses.

00:32:50.739 → 00:32:58.339
Yes, there are some, like the Papus, who would seek to restore political hegemony over countries.

00:32:58.879 → 00:32:59.659
Not going to happen.

00:33:00.479 → 00:33:07.579
The fact that someone might do something bad with something good is not an argument against the good thing.

00:33:08.219 → 00:33:10.999
And this shouldn’t be difficult for Christians to understand.

00:33:11.579 → 00:33:44.019
When we are talking about Christians ensuring that their own nation, which should be under God properly, the Triune God, not the deist God that this country evolved into upholding, from the top down, incidentally, when all the deists overthrew the Articles of Confederation and basically came up with a new government in secret at the Constitutional Convention, they were putatively the representatives of the people, but by and large they didn’t represent the people.

00:33:44.299 → 00:33:46.219
They represented landed interests.

00:33:46.579 → 00:33:49.939
They represented traders and the wealthy, and many of them were not Christians.

00:33:49.959 → 00:34:00.419
Many were, but there were many non-Christians participating, and some of them did terrible things, like Thomas Jefferson, as a direct result of their not being Christian.

00:34:00.759 → 00:34:13.399
But because they won politically, they wrote the history, and so now everyone thinks that all these guys are heroes, and because they were at the top and because they won, deism spread.

00:34:14.819 → 00:34:21.039
When you look at 18th century America, Christianity began to die in large part.

00:34:21.059 → 00:34:22.999
Now, it mutated as it died.

00:34:23.339 → 00:34:24.819
You had an explosion of cults.

00:34:24.839 → 00:34:35.939
You had an explosion of the transcendentalists and other things where people just sort of wandered off into nature and did bizarre things that tried to find God outside of Scripture.

00:34:37.259 → 00:34:47.519
That was a result of their leaders not being Christian and taking the country in a direction and the nation in a direction that was not Christian.

00:34:48.159 → 00:34:52.359
And the subsequent fruits of those decisions are still with us to this day.

00:34:53.819 → 00:34:59.339
I think when the second part of the conversation we wanted to have today is what is a Christian?

00:34:59.459 → 00:35:13.179
And we’ve been kind of answering it all along, but there’s this goofy, stereotypical behavior that I see emerging even among people who are good Christians.

00:35:13.199 → 00:35:14.619
They intend to be faithful.

00:35:14.999 → 00:35:28.499
They’re trying not to cross lines that they believe are present, but they do so by saying, in effect, I can only be Christian in church stuff, and I don’t want to impose on anyone else the rest of my time.

00:35:28.519 → 00:35:37.819
And like I mentioned last week, you got an hour in church, maybe two or three hours of Sunday school, and then the other 160-odd hours, you’re off on your own.

00:35:38.339 → 00:35:40.439
How many of those hours are you a Christian?

00:35:40.899 → 00:35:42.879
Is it when you’re in church or is it all the time?

00:35:43.459 → 00:36:02.619
Now, the what is a Christian question is one that makes a lot of Protestants uncomfortable, because Protestant doctrine, the solas have basically been collapsed into I love Jesus, I’m going to heaven, everything else is going to be fine because he paid for my sins, it’s all okay.

00:36:03.579 → 00:36:15.219
It’s happy, clappy boyfriend Jesus crap that while in isolation, those individual statements may be true, if that becomes your ethos, you’re toast.

00:36:16.479 → 00:36:22.919
There’s something I think I recommend in the first episode, and I’m going to say it over and over again because I think it’s really vital.

00:36:24.299 → 00:36:27.859
Go to esv.org and click on the little gear.

00:36:28.459 → 00:36:46.199
Uncheck all the options, turn off the footnotes and the cross references, turn off the headings, turn off the verses, and turn on red lettering for Jesus, which is going to make some of the Lutherans in the audience freak out because there are people who say that you can ignore the Bible unless it’s in red.

00:36:46.799 → 00:36:48.139
Absolutely not what I’m saying.

00:36:49.599 → 00:36:55.439
What I’m saying is do that, and then read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, just reading the words in red.

00:36:55.459 → 00:36:56.359
Don’t read anything else.

00:36:56.379 → 00:36:57.359
Just read the words in red.

00:36:57.719 → 00:37:00.759
That is not to say that the rest is not equally important.

00:37:01.079 → 00:37:04.319
It’s not to say that the rest is not also the inspired word of God.

00:37:04.339 → 00:37:05.299
That’s not my point.

00:37:05.939 → 00:37:07.019
My point is this.

00:37:07.739 → 00:37:12.459
If you read only Jesus preaching, it’s almost all law.

00:37:12.919 → 00:37:14.839
There is gospel there, but it’s thin.

00:37:15.339 → 00:37:19.959
And there are often times where he lays it on hard, and he ends hard.

00:37:20.459 → 00:37:24.919
When he performs a miracle for someone, he says, go and sin no more.

00:37:25.519 → 00:37:27.039
Now, was Jesus stupid?

00:37:27.659 → 00:37:32.299
Did he set that person up, or did he think that they would actually be able to not sin anymore?

00:37:32.899 → 00:37:38.859
Or did Jesus tell him what his will, what God’s will is for each of us, to go and sin no more?

00:37:39.199 → 00:37:40.439
That is the Christian life.

00:37:41.219 → 00:37:42.139
And yes, we fail.

00:37:42.459 → 00:37:47.399
And yes, Jesus paid on the cross for the fact that we would and will continue to fail.

00:37:48.759 → 00:37:50.819
That doesn’t mean that we don’t try.

00:37:51.699 → 00:38:09.959
And the sanctified Christian life is about living more and more in God every day, about spending time in God’s scripture, about contemplating His wisdom, and then about living all 168 hours of our week in a manner that is consistent with God’s will and pleasing to Him.

00:38:10.739 → 00:38:23.299
And when these guys only want to talk about the gospel, quote unquote, and Christ’s sacrifice, those are incredibly important things, but that’s not the entire Christian life.

00:38:23.819 → 00:38:28.359
The Christian life begins at baptism and continues until you die.

00:38:28.959 → 00:38:37.819
And most of your days, most of your hours, most of your minutes are not spent reading the Word or taking communion or hearing preaching.

00:38:38.199 → 00:38:38.999
And that’s okay.

00:38:39.399 → 00:38:44.539
God gave us other things to do, but they should be done in a manner that is pleasing to Him.

00:38:44.959 → 00:39:02.679
The Christian life is obedience to God, and that means that the left-hand kingdom where there is what we call political activity, must necessarily be in obedience to God every bit as much as what goes on in church.

00:39:03.219 → 00:39:11.239
Just as much as we care about a faithful application of sacramental doctrine, we should care about the proper exercise of the law.

00:39:12.379 → 00:39:21.199
And to fail to do that is to fail to be a good Christian, and to be indifferent to that is to risk ceasing to be a Christian altogether.

00:39:23.779 → 00:39:27.799
Well, we know what happens when Christians are indifferent to the left-hand kingdom.

00:39:29.379 → 00:39:34.079
Satan takes over, because Satan is not indifferent to the left-hand kingdom.

00:39:34.619 → 00:39:46.939
And so if Christians are indifferent and do not involve themselves in the left-hand kingdom and do not behave as faithful Christians in the left-hand kingdom, the left-hand kingdom will be ruled by pagans, will be ruled by Satan.

00:39:47.979 → 00:39:49.799
And so there are only two choices.

00:39:50.519 → 00:40:04.179
This is not something on which you can be indifferent, because if you’re indifferent, you’re just condemning your grandchildren, great-grandchildren, whatever generation it happens to be, you are condemning them to live in a pagan nation instead of a Christian nation.

00:40:04.899 → 00:40:15.039
This isn’t an option where we have Christianity on one side, Satanism and atheism on the other side, and some sort of neutrality in the middle.

00:40:15.739 → 00:40:16.659
This is black and white.

00:40:17.159 → 00:40:22.339
You’re either a Christian nation or you are an anti-Christian nation.

00:40:22.619 → 00:40:25.899
Yes, there are different degrees of being one or the other.

00:40:25.919 → 00:40:33.819
You can be more or less Christian, and you can be more or less atheist or Satanist, but you can’t be neutral.

00:40:33.879 → 00:40:35.319
There is no neutrality.

00:40:35.339 → 00:40:36.639
There’s no middle.

00:40:36.659 → 00:40:39.899
There’s no third way when it comes to this question.

00:40:40.839 → 00:40:58.139
And you mentioned about the rise of deism in the US, and really the modern Christian, many of the churches anyway, are basically a half step above morally therapeutic deism or moralistic therapeutic deism.

00:40:59.019 → 00:41:06.319
It’s just that with Jesus slathered on top of it, a little bit, just a thin layer, a little bit of Jesus butter on top there.

00:41:06.779 → 00:41:09.439
It’s not really Christianity anymore.

00:41:09.939 → 00:41:24.119
It’s just that one hour, the 90 minutes, whatever it happens to be on Sunday, and then I live the rest of my life as if I’m just another member of this society, and I do whatever society tells me to do or not to do.

00:41:24.899 → 00:41:26.659
And so I have Jesus in it.

00:41:26.799 → 00:41:27.779
Yeah, exactly.

00:41:27.799 → 00:41:37.659
Well, yes, football is actually a great example, because how many people spend their 60 minutes, their 90 minutes, maybe they go to Bible study, maybe they spend two hours, whatever it happens to be.

00:41:38.319 → 00:41:48.979
They spend that little bit of time for Jesus on Sunday, and then they go home and spend four, five, six, I don’t know how many hours on football or basketball or baseball or whatever it happens to be.

00:41:50.939 → 00:41:56.039
And then they spend so much of their time thinking about and posting about and arguing over that.

00:41:56.979 → 00:41:58.959
Well, what’s really important in their life?

00:42:00.079 → 00:42:02.739
I’m not saying you can’t have hobbies, because of course you can have a hobby.

00:42:02.759 → 00:42:11.239
You can have a hobby that absorbs a ton of your time even, as long as it doesn’t become more important to you than the things that are actually important.

00:42:12.479 → 00:42:22.479
And for a lot of people, it seems like sports have become more important than God, because you’ll have even pastors who spend their Sundays posting about sports.

00:42:23.699 → 00:42:25.239
Why on earth are you doing that?

00:42:25.679 → 00:42:31.199
This is supposed to be the day that everyone inherently knows is dedicated to the Lord.

00:42:32.659 → 00:42:36.939
Maybe say something about the Lord on that day, particularly if it is your vocation to do so.

00:42:37.659 → 00:42:48.539
If you spend all of your time posting about sports, the people who are looking at that, who are watching you, are going to think that, well, maybe God isn’t so important, because he’s posting about this particular sports team.

00:42:48.559 → 00:42:49.939
He likes a lot more than God.

00:42:51.739 → 00:43:02.159
And so it matters what we do, how much time we spend on it, how important we make it seem in our life, because often how important we make it seem is merely a reflection of how important it actually is.

00:43:03.259 → 00:43:07.499
And so our witness to the world is in part how we live our lives.

00:43:08.719 → 00:43:11.219
Are you a Christian when you’re in the left hand kingdom?

00:43:11.579 → 00:43:14.619
Are you a Christian when you’re not in the sanctuary?

00:43:14.999 → 00:43:15.619
You should be.

00:43:16.939 → 00:43:25.859
In sports, I specifically mentioned professional sports, because that is where the subversion is occurring culturally.

00:43:26.199 → 00:43:37.939
It is not simply that these professional sports were erected on Sundays, Sunday mornings, on weekends to consume people’s money and their time and their passion.

00:43:38.639 → 00:43:46.459
And we’re not making the argument against spending your time poorly versus spending your time well.

00:43:47.559 → 00:43:52.019
We’re making the point that the NFL is evil.

00:43:52.639 → 00:43:55.879
The NFL has done tremendously evil things.

00:43:56.239 → 00:43:59.119
They have promoted tremendously evil things.

00:43:59.479 → 00:44:00.939
They do it every Sunday.

00:44:01.399 → 00:44:03.879
It is one of the key things that they do.

00:44:03.939 → 00:44:10.959
It is one of their purposes is not to sell advertising, not to throw the pigskin around.

00:44:11.379 → 00:44:17.759
It is to promote societal change along avenues that are contrary to Christian doctrine.

00:44:18.179 → 00:44:24.179
And the fact that so many pastors and other Christians are either blind or indifferent to it is terrifying.

00:44:24.859 → 00:44:41.419
If you are living a sanctified life, if you are spending your time consuming godly things, when you are exposed to something that is ungodly, that is not wholesome, it is physically repellent.

00:44:41.899 → 00:44:42.979
It is disgusting.

00:44:42.999 → 00:44:44.919
You physically revolt.

00:44:45.579 → 00:44:50.839
I spent years being completely indifferent to most of these subjects.

00:44:50.859 → 00:44:52.819
I was a Christian, but I didn’t really care.

00:44:52.839 → 00:44:54.759
I was a Christian on Sunday, and the rest of the time, whatever.

00:44:55.819 → 00:44:57.339
I knew I was Christian, so it was sorted.

00:44:57.359 → 00:44:58.059
I was a Lutheran.

00:44:58.339 → 00:45:02.839
I definitely was confident in my baptism, so pretty much everything else was taken care of.

00:45:04.619 → 00:45:18.939
In the last couple of years, as I started to spend more time in the Word and less time consuming garbage, when I would be then exposed to things I used to love, to songs and to shows that I used to just, I ate them up.

00:45:19.339 → 00:45:21.139
It was part of who I was.

00:45:22.639 → 00:45:35.459
There are many cases where I now have a visceral repulsion to those things, and it’s not rooted in some sort of pietism where I’m like, oh, this is dirty.

00:45:35.479 → 00:45:39.599
I didn’t relisten to that song expecting to find something gross.

00:45:40.399 → 00:45:45.219
I relistened because I missed the song and found that what I used to love, I now hated.

00:45:45.899 → 00:46:05.919
Now, that is something, I’m not saying that everyone needs to have exactly that experience, but I am saying if you never feel revolted by things that are contrary to God, or if you can’t even tell that things are contrary to God, you have a spiritual problem.

00:46:06.339 → 00:46:10.159
You have a deep-seated spiritual lack of discernment.

00:46:10.979 → 00:46:19.419
And although discernment is a gift, as a matter of degree, it must be present in every Christian, or how are you going to stay Christian?

00:46:19.779 → 00:46:24.859
If you can’t tell the difference between Christian and not Christian, you’re toast, you’re lost.

00:46:25.819 → 00:46:46.619
And that’s the reason we keep talking about Sunday morning versus the rest of the time, is that so many of these arguments that are made mostly in good faith by Christians who rightly want to prevent problems that have occurred in the past, when people have done things wrong, they end up collapsing the Christian life to Sunday morning.

00:46:47.159 → 00:46:50.139
And the rest is just, oh, remember your baptism and go do whatever.

00:46:50.539 → 00:46:53.819
I can tell you from personal experience, that doesn’t work.

00:46:54.359 → 00:46:55.699
It’s a terrible idea.

00:46:55.939 → 00:46:58.099
It is an idea that leads people to hell.

00:46:58.679 → 00:47:03.679
And more than that, like, this isn’t just about saved or not.

00:47:03.699 → 00:47:10.199
That’s one of the things that we lose when we think about sanctification as…

00:47:10.219 → 00:47:12.619
We don’t really think about sanctification at all.

00:47:12.639 → 00:47:20.539
Like, when all the focus is on the sacraments and God’s gifts to us, which are blessings, I’m not demeaning those in the slightest, so please don’t hear that.

00:47:21.719 → 00:47:32.819
When we issue godly living, godly wisdom, obedience to God, we end up missing out on the good life that God wishes to give us.

00:47:33.279 → 00:47:36.899
When you obey God, you are blessed in this life.

00:47:37.659 → 00:47:39.099
This isn’t prosperity gospel.

00:47:39.119 → 00:47:40.879
It doesn’t mean you’re going to win a million dollars.

00:47:41.259 → 00:47:42.919
It doesn’t mean you’re not going to lose your job.

00:47:43.199 → 00:47:44.739
It doesn’t mean you won’t go hungry.

00:47:45.079 → 00:47:49.179
It means that you will be blessed by God in ways that he sees fit.

00:47:49.739 → 00:47:54.419
And whatever God’s blessings are for you, you should be thankful for them.

00:47:54.859 → 00:48:03.539
And as much as we want to emphasize that not every blessing necessarily looks like a win at the time, most of them are.

00:48:04.259 → 00:48:08.199
Most of God’s blessings are just normal blessings that anyone can see.

00:48:08.739 → 00:48:13.739
If you don’t engage in contraceptive behavior, God will bless you with lots of children.

00:48:14.199 → 00:48:15.519
It happens automatically.

00:48:15.779 → 00:48:16.819
You get it for free.

00:48:16.839 → 00:48:18.379
God just gives it to you.

00:48:18.999 → 00:48:22.419
When you rebel against God, you don’t get those blessings.

00:48:22.939 → 00:48:33.779
Now, when those things are sinful, Jesus paid for them, and you will still receive salvation, but you will not have the temporal gifts that come to those who are obedient in this life.

00:48:35.779 → 00:48:43.499
When it comes to football, I’d like to make a sort of practical argument that may reach some members of the audience who would not otherwise listen to us.

00:48:44.599 → 00:48:55.319
Now, for a religious audience, undoubtedly we’re going to have some familiarity with a certain section of the IRS tax code, and that would be 501C.

00:48:56.099 → 00:49:03.519
And the reason we’ll have that is because, of course, 501C3 is where you get tax exemption for religious organizations.

00:49:04.459 → 00:49:15.899
Now, what most people don’t realize is that, scroll down a little bit from 501C3, 501C6, football organizations are exempt.

00:49:16.699 → 00:49:30.399
Now, as a general rule, our government does not do things that are for the good in the greater sense of the term good, things that are in line with Christianity, in line with Christ.

00:49:31.239 → 00:49:37.119
And so you would, of course, be hard pressed to find an organization that is more evil than the IRS.

00:49:37.139 → 00:49:40.739
There are some in our government, of course, but they’re certainly at the top.

00:49:41.359 → 00:49:51.199
So if the IRS has preferential treatment for an organization, you can generally assume that it’s one of a handful of reasons why that is the case.

00:49:52.199 → 00:49:59.159
You have either it is too much of a hassle or becomes too entangled or there’s a legal restriction.

00:49:59.179 → 00:50:01.219
That would be the case for religious organizations.

00:50:01.239 → 00:50:03.459
Several of those arguments, we won’t get into them here.

00:50:04.399 → 00:50:11.919
You have particularly moneyed or powerful individuals who can write their own laws by proxy, of course.

00:50:12.519 → 00:50:19.039
And then you have things that are being pushed for particularly destructive purposes to destroy society.

00:50:19.819 → 00:50:23.079
Often reasons two and three tend to overlap a lot.

00:50:23.099 → 00:50:26.079
That’s a Venn diagram with a great deal of overlap in that middle section.

00:50:26.739 → 00:50:41.339
But the reason that you have the NFL getting such referential tax treatment and legal treatment and subsidies and everything historically is that those who are pushing for this have a very clear agenda.

00:50:41.799 → 00:50:46.699
And that agenda runs counter to Christianity, as was mentioned.

00:50:47.159 → 00:50:51.459
That agenda does all sorts of evil in our society.

00:50:51.999 → 00:50:54.179
And it’s not just the NFL itself.

00:50:54.859 → 00:50:56.699
It’s the things the NFL shows.

00:50:56.719 → 00:50:58.699
It’s the things the NFL advertises.

00:50:59.119 → 00:51:06.519
It’s the things that it does in its press releases and the way that it advocates for changing society and laws.

00:51:06.979 → 00:51:08.859
It’s the halftime shows.

00:51:09.339 → 00:51:10.459
It’s extensive.

00:51:11.219 → 00:51:16.199
This is an organization that exists to undermine what is good in our culture.

00:51:16.779 → 00:51:23.319
And many Christians are supporting it not just with their time and their attention, but also with a significant amount of money.

00:51:24.659 → 00:51:28.179
And that’s not to say that it’s not entertaining too, but that’s the problem.

00:51:28.619 → 00:51:30.439
The entertaining aspect is the hook.

00:51:30.979 → 00:51:39.979
The fact that you’ve maybe played college ball or like you’ve always been into it doesn’t change the fact that what it is being used for today is overt evil.

00:51:40.699 → 00:51:44.259
And when people don’t recognize that, we have a real problem.

00:51:46.139 → 00:51:53.899
I think it’s important before we wrap up to make a positive case for what Christian nationalism would look like.

00:51:54.279 → 00:51:56.059
What would a Christian nation look like?

00:51:56.719 → 00:52:13.919
And I think to start, we have to acknowledge that while on the right hand kingdom, there is not necessarily permission for the church to forcibly baptize or forcibly convert.

00:52:15.439 → 00:52:30.039
Separately from that question, on the left hand politically, a Christian government has a positive obligation to God to prevent false religions from spreading in its lands.

00:52:30.659 → 00:52:42.959
If we were a Christian nation, there would be no more mosques, there would be no more synagogues, there would be no more Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Halls, there would be no more Morban Tabernacle.

00:52:43.479 → 00:53:04.359
These things, the Christian science reading rooms, these things which are overt religions, which are antithetical to God, would not be permitted for the very same reason that when God gave the Hebrews new lands, He told them to cast down the idols of those lands, to destroy them.

00:53:05.039 → 00:53:07.899
That wasn’t political guidance.

00:53:08.499 → 00:53:11.439
That wasn’t, oh, that was then and this is now.

00:53:11.939 → 00:53:22.399
If you’re a faithful Christian, you have a positive desire to destroy that which is evil, that which will cause people to go to hell.

00:53:23.099 → 00:53:32.799
And if you’re a Christian, if you actually believe what Christian doctrine teaches, then mosques and synagogues and Christian science reading rooms lead people to hell.

00:53:33.119 → 00:53:38.219
They cause damnation by their existence, and they would not be permitted.

00:53:39.059 → 00:54:07.539
And that is why we will continue in virtually every episode, God willing, every episode, we will attack the Enlightenment by name, and we will give details about why the Enlightenment was a perversion and an assault on God’s order, because the notion of the separation of church and state, which has nothing to do even with the initial implementation of the Constitution itself, that was memed later on, but it was an Enlightenment value.

00:54:08.539 → 00:54:15.719
The idea that, well, the state can go in one direction and the church can go another, and they don’t need to step on each other’s toes.

00:54:16.359 → 00:54:19.259
There are cases where that’s true, and there are cases where that’s false.

00:54:19.659 → 00:54:29.799
And if you have a Christian nation, you should seek through the Gospel to reach those who can be reached to give them the good news of God.

00:54:30.519 → 00:54:34.719
But you’re under no obligation to permit them to practice witchcraft.

00:54:35.579 → 00:54:38.859
You have an obligation to God to kill them if they practice witchcraft.

00:54:39.259 → 00:54:43.559
That’s what God says in the Old Testament, and again, that’s not a ceremonial law.

00:54:43.899 → 00:55:13.119
If someone is going to behave in a way that is overtly satanic, the left-hand kingdom, not the right, not the church, we’re not saying that the church should be exercising force or violence, but the king, absolutely, he has a positive duty to do so, and to fail to do so is to fail to be a Christian kingdom or principality or whatever form of government you have.

00:55:13.139 → 00:55:13.979
It doesn’t matter.

00:55:14.299 → 00:55:29.139
The bottom line is if it is not upholding the very most basic Christian premise that overt evil, even if it’s spiritual evil, even if it’s a Satan worshipper who’s not actually openly sacrificing humans, it doesn’t matter.

00:55:29.559 → 00:55:34.259
They still must be cast out, and they must be stamped out, and they cannot be permitted to exist.

00:55:34.619 → 00:55:45.579
And if that means that you have to hunt them the way we hunt terrorists and drug dealers, they’re in the same category, only worse, because you don’t need to fear the one who can destroy the body.

00:55:45.859 → 00:55:48.899
You need to fear the one who can destroy both the body and soul forever.

00:55:50.839 → 00:56:00.019
And beyond even that, it’s not just that that individual invites condemnation upon himself, invites judgment upon himself.

00:56:00.019 → 00:56:09.799
If you actually read the passages in the Old Testament, the existence of these individuals in a nation invites judgment on the nation.

00:56:10.439 → 00:56:12.259
And so we have this modern conception.

00:56:12.439 → 00:56:28.459
It comes from libertarian, from Enlightenment thought, that, well, my neighbor does his thing over on his property, and I do mine on my property, and as long as I’m not interfering with him, then he can keep doing it, and as long as he’s not interfering with me, then he can keep doing whatever he’s doing.

00:56:29.279 → 00:56:41.739
And that’s just not true, because what my neighbor does, does directly affect me, particularly if he is worshiping a false god, because he is inviting god judgment on himself and on me.

00:56:41.759 → 00:56:43.499
I live next to him.

00:56:43.519 → 00:56:44.519
I’m part of his nation.

00:56:45.319 → 00:56:52.579
I am not immune to the consequences of my neighbor’s evil, because god doesn’t just judge individuals.

00:56:52.679 → 00:56:55.619
He judges individuals, families, and nations.

00:56:55.639 → 00:56:58.519
And there are clear examples of this throughout scripture.

00:56:58.839 → 00:57:00.879
This is not something that appears in one place.

00:57:00.899 → 00:57:02.219
It appears in many places.

00:57:02.559 → 00:57:09.879
It is very clear that just as god blesses the faithful, he will judge and curse the faithless.

00:57:12.379 → 00:57:16.899
And the inevitable counterargument is, well, what if the government doesn’t do it right?

00:57:16.919 → 00:57:18.559
What if they go after the wrong people?

00:57:19.319 → 00:57:20.799
That’s why we talk about headship.

00:57:21.099 → 00:57:26.599
That is why we talk about the fact that he who is the head faces the stricter judgment.

00:57:26.879 → 00:57:32.659
We spent a lot of time in the first episode differentiating between those who are subordinate and those who are superior.

00:57:33.099 → 00:57:36.999
If you are in a superior position, you have a greater duty to god.

00:57:37.279 → 00:57:39.459
You have a greater accountability to god.

00:57:39.959 → 00:57:50.479
So am I worried that the man who is over my nation politically may err in discerning the proper Christian treatment of things?

00:57:50.739 → 00:57:51.259
Of course.

00:57:51.599 → 00:58:08.619
Just as I’m concerned that he may make errors in terms of warfare or the economy or whatever, sound judgment and wisdom in godly living are always driven by god, and they’re always in proclamation of god’s will.

00:58:09.299 → 00:58:13.539
And the fact that someone might get it wrong isn’t an argument for not trying.

00:58:13.779 → 00:58:27.239
It’s an argument for getting it right and for caring about these things to the point that we stridently pursue them in a faithful obedience to god, frankly one that hasn’t been seen for a long time.

00:58:27.779 → 00:58:40.259
When Christian nationalism is condemned by pastors, I didn’t mention this earlier, but you need to understand, for someone to condemn Christian nationalism is to condemn virtually all of Christian history.

00:58:41.039 → 00:58:43.759
Christian nationalism is why you’re a Christian.

00:58:44.159 → 00:58:46.479
I alluded to that point, but I want to make it explicit.

00:58:46.919 → 00:58:50.199
You are a Christian because of Christian nationalism.

00:58:50.519 → 00:58:58.199
You’re a Christian because the leaders of the European kingdoms became Christians, and their people became Christians.

00:58:58.539 → 00:59:00.759
In some cases, it was more compelled than others.

00:59:01.019 → 00:59:01.659
But you know what?

00:59:01.699 → 00:59:07.739
Even if you’re compelled to be a Christian, even if you don’t really believe it, if your kids are baptized and they’re raised, they’re going to believe it.

00:59:08.199 → 00:59:11.379
God visits his blessings on those who obey him.

00:59:11.999 → 00:59:17.279
And that’s not to suggest that you can have some sort of pro forma obedience without faith.

00:59:17.599 → 00:59:24.799
I’m simply saying that when you live a godly life, it will bear godly fruit, and that happens at the national level as well.

00:59:24.939 → 00:59:28.519
Even godly heathens are blessed by God to a certain degree.

00:59:28.519 → 00:59:29.699
Absolutely, yes.

00:59:30.259 → 00:59:34.459
They’re blessed with children, they’re blessed with long life and health, and you see this all the time.

00:59:34.479 → 00:59:41.479
And it’s one of the things that makes it difficult to reach them with the gospel, because they’re living the good life.

00:59:41.739 → 00:59:42.699
They have everything.

00:59:42.719 → 00:59:44.399
They’re at peace.

00:59:44.419 → 00:59:48.719
They don’t lie, they don’t slander, they do everything pretty much by the book.

00:59:49.559 → 00:59:55.319
And so they feel self-justified, and no one should ever feel self-justified.

00:59:55.339 → 01:00:03.159
Nothing that ever comes out of either one of our mouths should ever give anyone the indication that we think that we can save ourselves by any of this.

01:00:03.879 → 01:00:07.539
All of this is post-soteriological conversation.

01:00:07.979 → 01:00:10.779
We’re talking about, okay, I’m a Christian, what now?

01:00:11.599 → 01:00:14.599
That’s the reason that James wrote his wisdom epistle.

01:00:14.619 → 01:00:17.799
You know, James is a book that scares a lot of Lutherans.

01:00:17.819 → 01:00:25.579
It used to scare me, because I’d seen the one verse that says we’re not safe, that there’s not, that faith without works isn’t a thing.

01:00:26.859 → 01:00:41.159
And if you’ve been inculcated in the Lutheran doctrine and not seriously engaged with sanctified living and what it means to live a Christian life, that does sound scary.

01:00:41.359 → 01:00:48.419
But if you read the whole epistle of James, he was writing to Christians to tell them, okay, you’re Christians, what now?

01:00:48.939 → 01:00:56.279
I am telling you what the Christian life looks like in Jerusalem or anywhere, because his words were the Holy Spirit’s words and they’re timeless.

01:00:56.959 → 01:01:00.159
God gave us the epistle of James.

01:01:00.179 → 01:01:01.479
He gave us Jesus preaching.

01:01:01.639 → 01:01:03.339
But again, it’s not mostly gospel.

01:01:03.579 → 01:01:06.459
It’s mostly here’s all the stuff you should do and not do.

01:01:07.039 → 01:01:09.419
And Jesus wasn’t confused about how you were saved.

01:01:09.839 → 01:01:12.339
He knew why he was here when he came.

01:01:12.739 → 01:01:17.879
When he was preaching about obedience to God, he knew that the people who were hearing him would fail.

01:01:18.219 → 01:01:22.319
He knew he was going to the cross to pay for their individual sins as well as ours.

01:01:22.679 → 01:01:23.999
And he said it anyway.

01:01:24.539 → 01:01:25.319
Was it futile?

01:01:25.699 → 01:01:31.599
No, it was not futile, because it is the means by which God wishes to give us his blessings.

01:01:31.979 → 01:01:35.199
When you disobey God, how is he going to bless you?

01:01:35.919 → 01:01:39.579
There are certain blessings you can receive, even though they’re mentioned in Scripture.

01:01:39.979 → 01:01:46.619
The sun shines and the rain comes, and the food is given to the righteous and to the unrighteous alike.

01:01:48.619 → 01:02:01.199
But when you live in God’s word and you live a sanctified life that eschews that which is evil and focuses on that which is good, including what your neighbor is doing, you will have more blessings.

01:02:01.439 → 01:02:02.519
You might not get richer.

01:02:02.759 → 01:02:04.259
You might still die from cancer.

01:02:04.439 → 01:02:13.439
You’re still blessed by God, even if the worst things happen to you, because you are living a life that is in conformance as much as you’re able with his will.

01:02:14.179 → 01:02:15.899
And that pleases God.

01:02:16.379 → 01:02:23.399
We’ve become afraid to say that obeying God pleases God, which is insane, because it’s all over scripture.

01:02:23.419 → 01:02:28.239
You can’t open to a page that doesn’t talk about a God-pleasing life pleasing God.

01:02:28.879 → 01:03:01.119
We have a duty to please God, and when we talk about Christian nationalism, in particular, we’re saying that our government, our nation should be ruled in a manner that is pleasing to God and if you have a political environment that is permitting evil, is permitting idolatry, is permitting gross offenses against creation itself, that is the opposite of pleasing to God, and you’re not only going to get wrath, you’re going to be judged for it, both in this life and the next.

01:03:01.139 → 01:03:06.759
It is open sin for us to tolerate the government that we have and we’re all guilty of it.

01:03:07.199 → 01:03:17.259
And blogging about it and complaining about it on podcasts doesn’t get us off the hook, because it’s our government too, and we will pay the price for what it does from God.

01:03:18.379 → 01:03:21.859
And we are certainly paying the price with the state of our society.

01:03:22.879 → 01:03:38.039
But to quickly address the argument to be loose with the term that always comes up, that has been mentioned several times, those who say that, well, because this thing can be abused, it cannot possibly be good.

01:03:39.479 → 01:03:49.259
Well, those who actually have and believe in the sacrament should understand that that is not the case, because we use wine in the sacrament of the table, in the Lord’s Supper.

01:03:50.259 → 01:03:51.939
And can wine be abused?

01:03:52.219 → 01:03:52.779
Certainly.

01:03:53.839 → 01:03:55.439
Does that mean that wine is evil?

01:03:55.799 → 01:03:59.119
Well, Scripture is very clear that the answer is certainly no.

01:03:59.139 → 01:04:00.679
It is not inherently evil.

01:04:01.379 → 01:04:07.699
And to make sure we meet our Latin requirement for the episode, of course, that’s just, abusus usum non tollet.

01:04:08.499 → 01:04:13.179
The abuse of a thing does not cancel or make void the use of a thing.

01:04:13.199 → 01:04:15.259
Those are two separate considerations.

01:04:15.659 → 01:04:19.319
Whether or not something is good is one consideration.

01:04:19.739 → 01:04:24.259
Whether or not a particular use to which it is being put is another consideration.

01:04:25.239 → 01:04:40.399
And so to use another illustration, there was a military commander who was being interviewed for the news, because his base had had some young boys come to the base to learn various things, one of which was marksmanship, handling a rifle.

01:04:41.119 → 01:04:45.219
And the female interviewer asked if that of course wasn’t a dangerous activity.

01:04:45.239 → 01:04:47.699
She said, well, you’re equipping these young boys to be killers.

01:04:48.619 → 01:04:50.419
And the general’s response was very good.

01:04:51.179 → 01:04:55.059
Well, ma’am, you’re equipped to be a prostitute, but you’re not one, are you?

01:04:57.839 → 01:04:59.439
That’s what it boils down to.

01:05:00.919 → 01:05:04.699
The Christian life requires a Christian to live it.

01:05:05.759 → 01:05:15.739
And the fact that we have so many who are afraid to even say, hey, go live a Christian life, it shows that we have ceased to be faithful Christians by any measure.

01:05:16.239 → 01:05:17.599
You’re not a Christian on Sunday.

01:05:17.619 → 01:05:19.679
You’re a Christian every day, or you’re never a Christian.

01:05:20.159 → 01:05:45.479
If you can go sit in a pew and take the sacrament and sing the hymns and love the liturgy and whatever performative things you do, no matter how much you feel them in your heart, if you then go on with the rest of your week and forget about it and think that you can engage fully in the opposite direction from God’s will, and it’s not even that people do that thinking, well, they don’t think it’s sinful.

01:05:46.019 → 01:05:49.439
They don’t even think, well, I’m going to go sin and Jesus will forgive me on Sunday.

01:05:49.779 → 01:05:51.359
They don’t think that their sin is sinful.

01:05:51.379 → 01:06:05.159
And that’s the most terrifying aspect of all of this, is when we have pastors and other Christians openly attacking Christian nationalism, which is simply obedience to God, and they do it with a clear conscience.

01:06:05.179 → 01:06:07.379
That’s what all these things boil down to.

01:06:07.699 → 01:06:17.339
I mentioned last week that just because you’re a Christian and you do something doesn’t sanctify what you’re doing as itself Christian.

01:06:17.939 → 01:06:25.539
You may well do it with a clean conscience, and that makes it even worse, because not only is it very convincing, but you’re unrepentant when you sin.

01:06:26.179 → 01:06:42.179
And that is why we will continuously point to Scripture and what God says, jumping over the last couple hundred years of what’s come out of our church or any other church or anywhere in society, because if something is true and it’s from God, it is an eternal truth.

01:06:42.619 → 01:06:51.699
And you don’t need something that was put on a podcast last week or written in a book last year or published by a synod 50 years ago for it to be true.

01:06:51.719 → 01:06:57.359
If it’s true, you’re going to find it in scripture, and you’re going to find that it’s been practiced by Christians throughout time.

01:06:58.039 → 01:07:07.099
And what we find is that Christian nationalism has been practiced by Christians throughout time until the kingdoms of Europe were overthrown and destroyed.

01:07:07.679 → 01:07:13.659
And that began with the Enlightenment, and it began with the revolutions, and we are witnessing the culmination of it now.

01:07:14.559 → 01:07:22.139
And as we come to the end of this episode, I want to reiterate the point that we made last week about the genealogy of ideas.

01:07:22.739 → 01:07:25.279
This idea that Christian nationalism is evil.

01:07:25.879 → 01:07:29.979
As I mentioned, there are dozens of podcasts devoted entirely to saying it’s evil.

01:07:30.519 → 01:07:32.079
Those people are not Christians.

01:07:32.499 → 01:07:34.039
Those people hate God.

01:07:34.339 → 01:07:39.639
They’re the same people who want to castrate children, who want to do every manner of evil thing to creation.

01:07:39.999 → 01:07:41.699
They also hate Christian nationalism.

01:07:42.439 → 01:07:56.879
So if you’re on the fence or if you actively despise it, it’s important for you to look to your left and look to your right and see who your brothers in arms are as you go to war against Christian nationalism.

01:07:57.319 → 01:07:58.499
Because it’s not Christians.

01:07:58.519 → 01:07:59.999
It’s not the Christians of history.

01:08:00.519 → 01:08:04.999
It is the most evil people in this day who are doing the most evil things.

01:08:05.619 → 01:08:08.559
Those are the people who are the opponents of Christian nationalism.

01:08:09.179 → 01:08:12.419
And they’re accompanied by Christians who are doing it in good conscience.

01:08:13.979 → 01:08:15.119
There’s a point that Dr.

01:08:15.139 → 01:08:23.339
Kuntz made on the Brief History of Power podcast last year that astonished me, and it’s something I reiterate frequently.

01:08:24.759 → 01:08:40.219
When Jeffrey Dahmer was captured and arrested and charged, it was exposed that Jeffrey Dahmer was a sodomite, a kidnapper, a rapist, a murderer, a necrophile, and a cannibal.

01:08:40.959 → 01:08:44.779
Those were the charges, and that’s what was exposed about him.

01:08:46.299 → 01:08:50.219
He didn’t speak in his own defense to say, no, I’m not any of those things.

01:08:51.479 → 01:09:06.979
But when it came out that when observing his victimology, there were blacks and Asians that he targeted to kidnap and rape and murder and defile and eat, the press called him a racist.

01:09:07.499 → 01:09:09.459
And that’s when Jeffrey Dahmer spoke up.

01:09:10.059 → 01:09:11.619
He didn’t care about the other things.

01:09:12.479 → 01:09:23.599
He cared about being called a racist, because being called a racist was contrary to Jeffrey Dahmer’s religion, not the religion in the sense that there was a church that was devoted to it.

01:09:23.919 → 01:09:30.279
But in Jeffrey Dahmer’s heart of hearts, the greatest sin that he could imagine anyone committing was to be a racist.

01:09:30.559 → 01:09:32.799
And he wanted to set the record straight.

01:09:33.179 → 01:09:35.059
That I’m not a racist.

01:09:35.439 → 01:09:36.519
Yeah, I’m a sodomite.

01:09:36.539 → 01:09:37.459
Yeah, I’m a cannibal.

01:09:37.479 → 01:09:38.299
I’m a necrophile.

01:09:38.319 → 01:09:38.959
I’m a murderer.

01:09:39.599 → 01:09:41.179
I’m not a racist.

01:09:41.199 → 01:09:42.619
Let’s get that one thing clear.

01:09:45.619 → 01:10:02.299
That goes to the genealogy of ideas, because if you hold that racism is evil or that Christian nationalism are evil, you need to look to your left and you need to look to your right and see who it is that is in lockstep with you.

01:10:02.819 → 01:10:19.459
And then ask yourself, if I oppose Christian nationalism on the basis of God’s word, if I believe that I’m being faithful to God in opposing this thing, you must answer to your own satisfaction and to God’s satisfaction.

01:10:19.939 → 01:10:31.099
How is it that the atheist to your left and the Jew to your right, who is every bit as angry and hateful as you against Christian nationalism, how did they arrive at that conclusion?

01:10:31.319 → 01:10:32.519
Because they don’t have God.

01:10:32.539 → 01:10:33.439
They hate God.

01:10:33.719 → 01:10:39.079
They seek to destroy God’s things, and they seek to destroy Christian nationalism.

01:10:39.819 → 01:10:41.379
Why are you in bed with those people?

01:10:41.599 → 01:10:42.639
How did that happen?

01:10:42.959 → 01:10:44.299
Maybe we’re completely wrong.

01:10:44.559 → 01:10:51.119
Maybe all these evil people, they got one thing right or two things right, since racism and Christian nationalism are all part of the same bucket.

01:10:51.459 → 01:10:56.659
Maybe they’re perfectly moral and perfectly right with God, and they get everything else wrong.

01:10:56.919 → 01:10:59.399
But you need to ask yourself, how did that happen?

01:10:59.679 → 01:11:02.599
Because if they didn’t get it from God, they got it from somewhere else.

01:11:02.619 → 01:11:08.799
So when you look at the genealogy of where they got those ideas, it’s the furthest thing imaginable from God.

01:11:09.719 → 01:11:12.699
And that is the same answer to where you got the idea.

01:11:12.719 → 01:11:18.319
Because you didn’t get it from Christians, you didn’t get it from Scripture, you didn’t get it from God.

01:11:18.999 → 01:11:34.459
And this is the point we’re going to hammer home as often as people will listen, because it’s so easy in an evil world to not question assumptions and not question priors and just absorb whatever we’re given.

01:11:34.479 → 01:11:42.519
And someone sprinkles Jesus dust on something and says it’s in the name of love and the Gospel, you’re morally obligated to do it and believe it.

01:11:43.039 → 01:11:44.819
That’s the story that we’re told.

01:11:45.779 → 01:11:47.699
That’s Satan’s story.

01:11:48.179 → 01:11:52.479
That’s Satan’s Gospel, to say, I’m opposed to everything that God is doing.

01:11:52.799 → 01:11:56.979
Here, let me sprinkle some Jesus dust on it so you suckers will eat it up because I know you love that.

01:11:57.419 → 01:11:59.599
And then you will run wild and do what I want.

01:11:59.919 → 01:12:02.339
That’s what’s happening with all of these subjects.

01:12:02.839 → 01:12:11.759
And I wish that Cory and I weren’t the guys who are saying things that are controversial, but they shouldn’t be controversial.

01:12:12.019 → 01:12:13.719
200 years ago, they wouldn’t have been.

01:12:14.139 → 01:12:24.019
200 years ago, it would be unthinkable to have this conversation because no one could conceive of a world where people didn’t simply already understand it intrinsically.

01:12:24.739 → 01:12:36.639
And yet today, here we are, because of generations of faithlessness, that more and more we have abandoned godly living to the point that when you say live a godly life, Christians recoil, and we need to undo that.

01:12:37.279 → 01:12:39.219
No one would listen to this podcast 200 years ago.

01:12:40.099 → 01:12:42.999
Even as fiction, it would be somewhat outlandish.

01:12:44.799 → 01:12:48.539
Yeah, I mean, it literally fits the definition of unthinkable.

01:12:49.099 → 01:12:55.539
The fact that you would have to debate over where people come from or whether or not we should obey God and have Christian leaders.

01:12:56.519 → 01:13:00.999
That’s controversial in the church today, and it’s not because they got it out of the Bible.

01:13:01.579 → 01:13:02.859
They didn’t get it out of the Bible.

01:13:02.979 → 01:13:07.339
And so I just implore anyone listening, figure out where you got the ideas.

01:13:08.079 → 01:13:12.079
Because if you didn’t get them from God, you need to go find some ideas that came from God.

01:13:12.559 → 01:13:14.039
And we’re here to talk about those.

01:13:15.199 → 01:13:22.619
And if you’re looking at the genealogy of ideas, a lot of times you can also look at the progeny of those ideas.

01:13:23.379 → 01:13:29.479
Because if you look at the progeny of the idea that, well, we’re all one race, a human race.

01:13:30.139 → 01:13:31.259
Well, we’re all one.

01:13:31.479 → 01:13:33.799
Male and female are just incidental.

01:13:34.339 → 01:13:37.759
God rolled some dice, and your soul came out as one or the other.

01:13:37.779 → 01:13:39.619
Or maybe it’s not even your soul, it’s just your body.

01:13:39.639 → 01:13:43.179
God stuck your soul in a body that happens to be male, happens to be female.

01:13:44.239 → 01:13:48.019
Well, you start off there, and you wind up with transgenderism.

01:13:48.039 → 01:13:51.239
You wind up with sex reassignment, so-called surgeries for children.

01:13:51.659 → 01:13:53.179
You wind up with puberty blockers.

01:13:53.219 → 01:13:54.359
You wind up with abortion.

01:13:54.399 → 01:13:56.099
You wind up with all of these evils.

01:13:56.619 → 01:14:02.979
They all flow naturally from these things that people believe and don’t think are controversial or evil or wrong.

01:14:04.459 → 01:14:15.499
So just to close out, I’d like to give a quick little summary of a good way for people to think about Christian nationalism and what exactly it is we mean and want by it.

01:14:16.679 → 01:14:20.679
In the right-hand kingdom, our head, ultimately, is Christ.

01:14:21.259 → 01:14:24.779
And so, of course, our head is Christian, being Christ himself.

01:14:25.979 → 01:14:32.159
All Christian nationalism is, is a desire to have a Christian head in the left-hand kingdom.

01:14:32.999 → 01:14:37.119
If you’re a child, you want your father to be Christian.

01:14:37.679 → 01:14:40.319
If you’re a wife, you want your husband to be Christian.

01:14:41.099 → 01:14:44.259
If you’re a citizen, you want your king to be Christian.

01:14:45.319 → 01:14:47.339
And that’s what we mean by Christian nationalism.

01:14:49.339 → 01:14:49.639
Amen.
