CSA Anti-German Sentiment

Germans have been a part of America since before the Revolution, and I know you are quite fond of them for obvious reasons. I agree with your stance that Germans today are a part of the American founding stock.
What I am curious about is your thoughts on the huge German immigration boom in the 1800s and how most of them joined the Union. Were the Southern States justified in having anti-German sentiment? Especially during the War, when they were on opposite sides of the battlefield.
