Genesis 34 - The Violation of Dinah Narrative
Reasoning:
I recently spoke with a friend about circumcision, and whether it is permissible for Christians. He directed me to Genesis 34, which tells of the violation of Dinah, the sister of Simeon and Levi, by Shechem the Canaanite. My friend suggested that this passage is evidence that circumcision, even in the time of the Israelites, required a lengthy recovery. Can we infer that Simeon and Levi deceived Shechem into believing that circumcision involved removing the entire foreskin, rather than only the tip of the foreskin, for the purpose of being able to easily kill Shechem and his men as retribution for Shechem violating Dinah?
