Can you explain the call process within the LCMS? There seems to be a confusion of terms, as “Calls” are issued not only for those in the Office of the Public Ministry, but also to other church work professions such as Directors of Parish Music, Directors of Christian Education, Directors of Outreach, deacons/deaconesses, and Lutheran teachers and principals. What is the reason for issuing Calls versus contracts? Does this muddle the understanding of the Pastoral Office and farm it out to other non-ordained/unqualified individuals?
