Topic Suggestion/Request:
(should match post title)
Maryology and Catholics
Reasoning:
(why should this be covered)
I’ve been discussing various topics with some Catholic buddies, and as the only Lutheran I am usually going 4 against 1. This puts a burden on me to know their doctrine well, in order to be able to know why it is wrong.
Mary is coming up soon. This was briefly covered here and there in passing in Stone Choir. But I am curious as to the specifics of Maryology in the Catholic Church nowadays, as most of these acretions became binding after the Reformation (to my knowledge). The immaculate conception, the assumption into heaven, etc. Though others like perpetual virginity were believed in Luther time, though still acretions.
Exactly how wrong are the Catholics? What’s the best steelman of their views?
Which arguments would be most convincing against them? Though I fear anyone with a presupposition of magesterial Infallibility will not be able to budge on an issue like this without shaking their faith entirely.
Thank you for any help. God bless you sir.
