I’m a seventh-generation Mormon. I was raised in the Church, though my parents weren’t particularly devout. I served a mission at 19 and attended BYU, where I meet my wife. I eventually concluded that the Mormonism was false. I became an atheist for several years, but later returned to Christianity and have faith in Christ.
My wife still has a strong affection for the Mormon Church, and we’ve taken our kids predominantly to their meetings even though I don’t particularly enjoy attending.
However, I believe family, ancestry, and inherited traditions are fundamental to who we are, and that we are obligated to those who came before us. Some of the most important parts of our identity are things we don’t choose. Mormonism is therefore part of my identity because it was passed down to me by my ancestors.
I would appreciate any advice on how to approach my relationship with the Mormon Church going forward?
