Topic Suggestion/Request:
(should match post title)
Is our hymnody a form of teaching within the Church, and if so, should we refrain from utilizing hymn texts that were written by women?
Reasoning:
(why should this be covered)
Our modern lutheran hymnals all include hymns texts written by women (Charlotte Elliott “Just as I am,” Frances Ridley Havergal “Take My Life and Let It Be”), but historically the corpus of lutheran hymnody all came from male writers, sometimes with women contributing as translators.
