Wisdom and the persuit of knowledge

When does man’s curiosity (Prov. 25:2) go beyond it’s limits and becoms practice of satanic arts? Through out history men of great intellect have often flirted with esoteric topics (Martin Chemnitz and astrology comes to mind). We live in a world in which a significant amount of modern technology came about with the help of men who engaged in open witchcraft and/or other forms of degeneracy (i.e. Elrond Hubbard and Alan Turning) let alone the number of Jews involved in the sciencs. Is it wrongful to keep some knowledge away from the majority of men?
